🕯️ Honoring the Divine: Brigid, Hecate, and Lilith

Choosing Your Divine Allies in a Modern Witchcraft Practice

Witchcraft isn’t about rules—it’s about relationships.
And some of the most powerful relationships in a witch’s life are with the divine.

You may not call yourself religious. You might not even be sure if “goddess work” is for you. But somewhere deep in your bones, something stirs when you hear certain names. Brigid. Hecate. Lilith.

That’s not a coincidence. That’s a calling.

Let’s be clear: you don’t have to worship a deity to work with them. In witchcraft, many of us choose to build relationships rather than practice blind devotion. This is not about obeying rules handed down from on high—it’s about honoring ancient energies that live within and around us.

So how do you know who to connect with?
Often, it begins with a flicker. A name that keeps showing up. A symbol that stirs something in you. A sense of recognition.

Let’s explore three powerful goddesses that modern witches across traditions feel drawn to—and how you can start working with them today.

🔥 Brigid – The Flamekeeper

Who She Is:
Brigid (also spelled Brighid or Bride) is a Celtic goddess of poetry, healing, fertility, and smithcraft. She’s a triple goddess—maiden, mother, and wise woman—and her fire touches every part of life.

She’s the sacred midwife, the forge’s flame, the hearth’s warmth, and the quiet voice that says, “Write that down. You have something to say.”

How She Might Appear in Your Life:

  • A sudden urge to write, sing, or create.
  • A pull toward herbal medicine or healing.
  • A need to nurture others or rekindle your own inner fire.
  • A growing desire for peace and simplicity.

Ways to Honor Brigid as a Divine Goddess:

  • Light a candle each morning and dedicate your creativity to her.
  • Offer milk, honey, or water in a bowl.
  • Clean your home or altar as an act of devotion.
  • Recite a poem—your own or someone else’s—in her name.
  • Tend a flame (even if it’s a tealight) with love and intention.

Witches Who Might Be Drawn to Brigid:
Writers, parents, artists, healers, empaths, and those seeking renewal after burnout or emotional drought.

🌕 Hecate – The Gatekeeper

Who She Is:
Hecate (pronounced HEK-uh-tee or Hek-a-TAH) and alternatively spelled Hekate, is the Greek goddess of witchcraft, the moon, crossroads, and spirits. She’s often depicted with torches, a key, or a black dog by her side. Hecate walks the liminal spaces—the thresholds between what was and what’s becoming.

She is the guide through darkness, the one who helps you shed your old skin and walk forward, even when you’re scared.

How She Might Appear in Your Life:

  • Dreams that feel too real.
  • A sense of being between two phases of life.
  • An urge to start shadow work or face past wounds.
  • Feeling called to explore death work, divination, or ancestral healing.

Ways to Honor Hecate as a Divine Goddess:

  • Leave an offering at a crossroads: garlic, honey, or a simple note of thanks.
  • Carry or place a key on your altar as a symbol of access and transition.
  • Perform moon rituals during the dark moon or new moon.
  • Walk intentionally at twilight, listening to your intuition.

Witches Who Might Be Drawn to Hecate:
Shadow workers, psychics, death doulas, transitioners (divorce, career change, etc.), and witches learning to navigate grief or trauma with power.

🔥 Lilith – The Rebel Flame

Who She Is:
Lilith’s origins are complex, controversial, and deeply powerful. In early Jewish mythology, she’s described as Adam’s first wife—one who refused to be submissive. Cast out for her defiance, she’s been demonized for centuries. But modern witches have reclaimed her as a symbol of sexual sovereignty, feminine rage, and divine rebellion.

Lilith is not here to be quiet or palatable. She is here to remind you that you belong to yourself.

How She Might Appear in Your Life:

  • A growing refusal to shrink, apologize, or conform.
  • Deep rage rising after years of suppression.
  • Reclaiming your sensuality, body, or voice.
  • Feeling ready to step into your full power, even if it burns bridges.

Ways to Honor Lilith as a Divine Goddess:

  • Light a red or black candle in her name and speak your truth aloud.
  • Keep a mirror on your altar to reflect your unapologetic self.
  • Engage in sensual rituals that honor your body’s pleasure.
  • Write a letter of reclamation—burn it, bury it, or carry it.

Witches Who Might Be Drawn to Lilith:
Survivors, rebels, feminists, sex-positive witches, and those breaking free from shame-based religious systems or patriarchal trauma.

🌿 How to Start a Relationship with a Goddess

You don’t need to build a temple or know every myth in order to devote your heart and intention to a Divine goddess.

Here are a few ways to begin:

  • Altar Space: Dedicate a small section of your home to your chosen goddess. Add symbols (flames for Brigid, keys for Hecate, mirrors for Lilith).
  • Simple Prayer: Speak to them aloud or in your mind. Tell them why you feel drawn to them. Ask for guidance.
  • Dreamwork: Before sleep, ask to receive a message. Keep a journal nearby.
  • Rituals: Light a candle, pour a cup of tea, or dance freely as a sacred act in their honor.

And most importantly: trust yourself.
Your connection doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s.
